Stop paying and the site stops — on an annual Squarespace plan it goes dark the moment you cancel, and a cancelled Wix site loses its domain and comes back with Wix's own ads on it. That is not an accident. It is the product. And it is why the price goes up and you pay it: leaving is the expensive part. A static website does not work that way. It is a folder of files. Cloudflare will serve that folder to the whole internet without charging you, and if you ever want to leave Cloudflare, you take the folder. “What he’s paying for is not being able to leave.” A reply on r/smallbusiness, 7 August 2026, about a business owner paying $379 a month for his own website. “Most business owners assume ‘I paid for the website, so it’s mine.’ … You are renting it.” r/canadasmallbusiness, 30 November 2025. The objection I get first ## “But then I can’t edit it myself.” Correct, and it is the real trade. You lose the drag-and-drop editor. What replaces it is a person: you send the change, it is live the same working day. If self-editing matters more than the saving, stay put. ### What you give up A visual editor you log into. There is no honest way around this — a static site is files, and files do not have a click-to-edit mode. ### What you get instead Edits by message. New price, new photo, new opening hours: send it, it ships the same working day. $99 a month, no contract, cancel whenever. ### What it costs to not have it Nothing. If you never need an edit, you never pay again after the move. The website does not switch off when the plan does. Say no on purpose If you update your site weekly and enjoy doing it yourself, a builder plan is genuinely the right tool and I will say so on the call. Every page is screenshotted on the old site and the new one at three screen widths and compared pixel by pixel. The migration is not done until the differences are near zero and the mail records resolve. 14 / 16pages identical on all three widths, live versus migrated, on the nbdigitaldentistry.com move. The audit is free and has no catch attached: you get a written answer on what you pay, what leaving costs, and what could break. Most of that answer is useful whether or not you hire me. - The audit — free, about a dayI look at your live site and your DNS. You get back: what your plan costs this year and next, which pages exist, whether anything can be exported, whether your email is at risk, and a straight yes or no on whether moving is worth it for you. - The build — one to two working daysThe site is rebuilt on Cloudflare from your published pages, so what shipped is what ships. URLs stay identical, redirects are mapped, images are compressed, search markup is added. You review it on a preview address before anything changes. - The switch — about fifteen minutes of clickingDNS moves when you say so. Every mail record is copied from live DNS first and set to bypass the proxy. The old site keeps serving until the change lands, so there is no dark window. Or pay nothing more: the site stays online either way, because the hosting is what is free. Before you ask ## What I will not promise you. Four things sold routinely in this corner of the market that cannot be honestly guaranteed. If a quote you get includes any of them, the number underneath it is worth less than it looks. ### “You’ll keep all your Google rankings.” Nobody controls that. What is controllable is the cause of most ranking loss: identical URLs, mapped redirects, the same content, and no offline window. Those I do control, and do. ### “Free hosting, forever.” It is $0 on Cloudflare's current free tier, which allows commercial use and does not meter static traffic. No company promises a tier for eternity. Your files are yours, so if that ever changed you would move again in a day. ### “We can migrate your Wix site.” Wix's own help centre says a Wix site cannot run anywhere but Wix. Leaving Wix is a rebuild, priced as one. Anyone quoting you a cheap Wix “migration” has not read that page. ### “Zero cost, everything included.” Hosting is $0. Your domain still costs its registry fee, and real mailboxes still cost whatever Google Workspace costs. I will put the actual annual number in writing before you pay anything. Questions ## Straight answers. Will I still be able to edit my website myself? Not with a drag-and-drop editor. That is the honest trade. Instead, edits are included in the $99 a month care plan: you send the change by WhatsApp or email and it is live the same working day. If editing it yourself matters more than the saving, stay where you are — I will tell you that on the call. How much does it cost to move my website? $890 once to move it as it is. $1,900 once to move it and redesign the front end. $99 a month afterwards is optional, has no contract, and covers edits, monitoring and backups. No. The old host keeps serving the site until DNS points at the new one, and the change propagates without a gap. If something is wrong, pointing the nameservers back restores the old site. Will my business email break? It should not, and it is the part I check first. Email lives in DNS records, not in the website. I read those records from live DNS rather than from the registrar's dashboard, because on one migration the registrar hid three of them — SPF, DKIM and DMARC — on a second page. Cloudflare's own documentation says requests to static assets on Pages are free and unlimited. The published limits are 500 builds a month, 20,000 files and 25 MiB per file. A normal business site is nowhere near any of them. You still pay to register your domain, wherever it is registered. Do I lose my Google rankings? No promise either way — anyone who promises is guessing. What I control is the part that causes ranking loss: the URLs stay identical, every redirect is mapped, the page content is the same content, and the site never goes offline during the switch.
